THE WORLD'S OPINION – NOT TO BE MISSED

It took those boxer's shoulders, that metallic gaze crushing the era, but also that princess-like blond hair to embody the indefinable heroine of Moon , the second feature film by filmmaker Kurdwin Ayub, winner of the Special Jury Prize at Locarno (Switzerland) in 2024. It is the Austrian performer Florentina Holzinger , thirty-something, former MMA and kickboxing fighter, whose hardcore shows are sold out, who plays the main role: a kind of Wonder Woman who has been sent to Jordan to train women in combat, so to speak.

And it is no coincidence that the release of Moon coincided with the dates of the French tour of Holzinger's new creation, Ophelia's Got Talent , which was presented at La Villette in Paris from June 30 to July 5. As for the director, born in Iraq in 1990, before growing up in Vienna, she uses her dual culture to tell us a story of crossed perspectives, incisive and breathtaking, between the West and the Middle East.

Moon begins much like James Gunn's latest Superman , in the throes of failure. We see Sarah (Florentina Holzinger) in a difficult position in the ring, trapped under the body of a thunderous opponent. She's no longer the unbeatable queen and is bored with her daily life as a trainer for beginners.
